The Emergency Management department oversees emergency preparedness training, coordinates emergency management functions, implements the Emergency Operations Plan, manages the Emergency Operations Center, and oversees the Continuity of Operations Plans (COOPs).

An audit revealed several areas needing improvement. The City’s Emergency Operation Plan and COOPs have not been reviewed or updated in a timely manner. Parts of the training program require expansion to better align with emergency planning responsibilities. Additionally, monitoring existing training requirements could be enhanced.

The audit also noted that Emergency Management's role in special events planning should be more clearly defined and processes standardized to improve efficiency in guiding special event teams.

The department agreed with these findings.
