The Thomas Road Complete Street Project is set to commence in early 2024. The initiative aims to enhance safety and provide a more uniform roadway for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists traveling between 73rd and 56th streets.

An open house will be held for those interested in learning more about the project. It is scheduled from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17, at the Community Design Studio located at 7506 E. Indian School Road. Additionally, the project will be presented to the Transportation Commission at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at Scottsdale City Hall, situated at 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

The planned changes include right turn lanes at intersections such as 64th and 68th streets and Scottsdale Road to boost intersection capacity and improve traffic flow. Pedestrians will benefit from increased separation between sidewalks and vehicular travel lanes.

Improvements are also planned to ensure accessibility that meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements at sidewalks, driveways, and ramps at intersections. The corridor will see new pavement throughout its length.

A significant alteration involves removing one eastbound travel lane to accommodate turn lanes and bike lanes while matching the number of travel lanes—two in each direction—on either side of the project area. Standard bike lanes will fill existing gaps on Thomas Road.

Other upgrades include new traffic signals at current signalized intersections, drainage improvements, and undergrounding some power poles.

For further details about the project, individuals can visit the project's website.
