Scottsdale is set to introduce a digital element to its upcoming primary election. The city will implement E-Qual, a system from the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office, allowing candidates to collect signatures electronically. This change comes as Scottsdale prepares for its primary election on August 2, where three council members will be elected. Candidates must gather 1,000 signatures from registered voters in Scottsdale to appear on the ballot. Although traditional paper petitions remain an option, E-Qual offers a convenient alternative for both residents and candidates.

The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve in Maricopa County, which has been monitoring cases since January 2020. Health officials encourage the public to adhere to guidelines such as vaccination and masking up. "Vaccines and boosters save lives," stated city representatives who are working with Vincere Center Centers to provide rapid testing and vaccinations at several locations in Scottsdale.

Testing is available at Granite Reef Senior Center and Mustang Library by appointment, while free vaccine events are scheduled through March at various community centers. The Pfizer vaccine is available for those aged five and older, while Janssen and Moderna vaccines are offered for adults over 18.

Maricopa County Public Health leaders anticipate more COVID-19 variants but expect that increased immunity will eventually make the virus endemic, reducing its impact on healthcare systems.

In other news, Scottsdale hosts several activities including the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction at WestWorld and Western Week events in Old Town Scottsdale starting January 29. Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy facilities at Indian School Park and Scottsdale Ranch Park with winter hours extending until February 20.

The city's Community Assistance Office continues to manage affordable housing programs and collaborates with nonprofits to meet critical needs through various federal programs.

Lastly, residents are reminded of dog park etiquette under the “LEASH UP. CLEAN UP.” initiative promoted alongside the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association.
