Traffic restrictions will be in place this Sunday, January 16, as the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon passes through Scottsdale. The closures will affect several major streets from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and drivers are advised to use the freeway system to avoid delays. Affected areas include Indian School Road eastbound, Hayden Road southbound, McDowell Road eastbound, Scottsdale Road northbound and southbound at different points, Thomas Road between Scottsdale Road and 64th Street, Miller Road northbound at McDowell Road, Oak Street westbound at Scottsdale Road, and 64th Street southbound.

For any inquiries regarding these restrictions or the marathon itself, individuals can contact the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Community Relations Hotline at 623-252-2485 or send an email to [email protected].

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 17, most city offices will be closed. However, recycling and garbage collection schedules remain unchanged.

Residents are invited to honor Dr. King's legacy by attending a town hall discussion titled “Chaos or Community: What can Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s work and writings teach us now?” This event is hosted by the Scottsdale Human Relations Commission on January 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Horizon Community Center.

COVID-19 testing continues in partnership with Vincere for those aged three years and older at Granite Reef Senior Center. The city is also hosting free vaccine events offering Pfizer for those five years and older along with Janssen and Moderna vaccines for adults.

Scottsdale's ongoing efforts against COVID-19 highlight that vaccinated individuals have significantly lower risks of severe outcomes compared to unvaccinated people.

Upcoming community activities include tonight's Gold Palette ArtWalk featuring live artist demonstrations in the Scottsdale Arts District from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., alongside various other events celebrating local art and culture.

Brian Dygert of WestWorld of Scottsdale will be recognized in Austin, Texas on January 18 as he is inducted into the League of Agricultural and Equine Centers Hall of Fame for his leadership in equine management over nearly three decades.

The city has requested residents reduce water usage by five percent due to a declared water shortage affecting Arizona's supply from the Colorado River since January first.

For more details about traffic updates around Scottsdale or upcoming events within the city limits, residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels.
