Scottsdale Water Executive Director Brian Biesemeyer has been named “Person of the Year” by the Arizona Water Association and Arizona WateReuse. This award recognizes Biesemeyer's three decades of dedication and leadership in the water industry, particularly his contributions to water reuse.

Under Biesemeyer's leadership, Scottsdale Water was the first to receive an Advanced Water Purification permit in Arizona and the first to launch a Citizen Water Academy to encourage public participation.

Biesemeyer's influence extends beyond Scottsdale. He has been actively involved in water reuse at the national level as a past board member of the WateReuse Association and as a past president of WateReuse Arizona. Additionally, he has played a significant role in the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, serving as a past chair and current member of its management board.

The Citizen Water Academy offers an in-depth look at Scottsdale Water through tours, hands-on demonstrations, and presentations. The city's water utility is one of the most advanced municipal water systems in the country. Participants must commit to five sessions starting Sept. 11.

The Transportation and Streets department will install approximately 75 multimodal detection systems throughout Scottsdale over the next 12 months. This technology helps traffic engineers adjust signal timing to accommodate various modes of transportation at intersections with high traffic volumes. The first series is being deployed adjacent to high school campuses where activity increases nearly 1,000% during the school year.
