Scottsdale Water Executive Director Brian Biesemeyer was awarded Person of the Year by the Arizona Water Association and Arizona WateReuse at the 2024 Arizona WateReuse Symposium. Biesemeyer, along with his directors and key employees, participated in the conference to moderate panels and discuss topics involving Advanced Water Purification.

In recognition of his 30 years of dedication and leadership in water and water reuse, Biesemeyer has spearheaded innovative initiatives while leading Scottsdale Water. Under his leadership, Scottsdale Water was the first to receive an Advanced Water Purification permit in Arizona and launched a Citizen Water Academy to encourage public participation. He is recognized as a leader within the industry and across the state.

“Brian has been a steady and active leader with a mission to preserve our water resources and diversify our water supply to take us into the future. He has always been willing to meet with public groups, our city council, and present to community boards. He has been a visionary for Scottsdale and always seeks to find solutions,” said Assistant City Manager Greg Caton.

During his tenure with Scottsdale Water, Biesemeyer has been involved in water reuse efforts. He is a past national board member of the WateReuse Association, past president of WateReuse Arizona, past chair, and current member of the Management Board of the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association.

“This award is a great honor and reflects well on Scottsdale Water as an organization that lives its vision of ‘water sustainability through stewardship, innovation, and people,’” said Biesemeyer. “I am honored to be part of an organization that is dedicated to using innovative strategies to ensure water supplies for many generations.”

The award was presented at the 2024 Annual WateReuse Conference last week in Flagstaff.

Scottsdale Water – the city’s municipal water utility – has provided quality drinking water and advanced reclamation services to Scottsdale businesses and residents for over 50 years. The utility has received recognition such as the Platinum Award for Utility Excellence by the Association of Municipal Water Agencies and Utility of the Future Today from the EPA.
