Maricopa County voting locations open early for primary elections

All voting locations throughout Maricopa County will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, July 30. Voters can cast their ballots at any location, request a replacement ballot, or drop off their early voted ballots. Information on the nearest voting location is available at Locations.Maricopa.Vote or by calling 480-312-2412.

Primary election results for city offices will be posted on Scottsdale.Vote, the city's official election webpage. The Scottsdale City Clerk’s Office will update results as they are received from the Maricopa County Elections Department starting after 8 p.m. on July 30 and periodically throughout the evening. Daily updates will continue until all ballots are counted.

In other news, thirteen individuals were rescued last week after getting lost on an Arizona hiking trail during high heat, including three children and an adult who were hospitalized. Authorities advise limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours and being prepared with essentials and knowledge of heat-related illness symptoms.

The public is invited to provide feedback on the 2024 draft McDowell Sonoran Preserve Ecological Resource Plan (ERP). The preserve spans over 30,000 acres of Sonoran Desert and aims to protect native habitats while providing public access for education and recreation. The draft plan includes recommendations for scientific studies to monitor ecological resources and was developed with input from stakeholders such as the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.

Scottsdale's Parks and Recreation department is offering new fall classes for youth, including Young Rembrandts drawing classes and cooking workshops. Registration opens soon for both residents and non-residents.

Public meetings scheduled for this week include sessions of the Development Review Board, Path and Trails Subcommittee, and Historic Preservation Committee on August 1.

Art enthusiasts can attend a reception hosted by Scottsdale Public Art to celebrate new temporary public artworks by artists Nicole Davy, Zach Valent, and Shela Yu on August 1 at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

Fitness enthusiasts are invited to participate in the USA/FIT Games at WestWorld of Scottsdale on August 3. Activities include powerlifting competitions, Zumba sessions, Strong Man challenges, arm wrestling, functional fitness demonstrations, among others.

Families can enjoy water slides and obstacle courses at Slide the Rails event at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park on August 3. Additionally, Scottsdale's Safety Luau at Eldorado Aquatic Center will offer CPR demonstrations alongside family-friendly activities later that day.

Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West will host movie matinees throughout August featuring classic films like "Shane" and "The Magnificent Seven."

Ongoing events include weekly Scottsdale ArtWalks every Thursday evening and various programs offered by local cultural institutions such as the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

The city continues its annual Scottsdale Salutes program honoring local veterans with light pole banners displayed in Old Town during November. Nominations are open until September 27.

Seniors aged 63-85 are needed for Forever Fit—a six-week research study evaluating exercise and nutrition benefits conducted in collaboration with local health organizations starting September 30.

Neighborhood College classes begin in September offering residents insights into community issues through various educational tracks including HOA/Condo management and local history.

Infrastructure updates include a closure of Loop 101's northbound off-ramp at Princess Drive/Pima Road starting July 31 as part of ADOT's project to improve interchanges along Loop 101 between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road.

Other community highlights include recent national baseball showcases hosted at Scottsdale Stadium attended by over thirty high school teams from multiple states.

Finally, a new sculpture titled “TRI-HEX-CIRC” by artist Phillip K. Smith III has been added to Scottsdale Public Art’s Permanent Collection at Raintree Drive and Hayden Road roundabout.
