Enhance the city's beauty and sustainability by providing feedback on the Shade & Tree Plan. This plan focuses on urban structured shade and urban forestry to create a cooler, more vibrant cityscape. It aims to mitigate heat, enhance the urban canopy, and promote environmental resilience for a healthier, more livable city. Your input is vital for addressing trees and shade structures in both community spaces and private properties.

Practice the ABCs of water safety. The Scottsdale Fire Department has responded to 11 water-related incidents so far this year. Sadly, five of those incidents resulted in fatalities. Water safety is important all year long but is especially essential in the summer when most drownings occur.

"No one should swim alone-- adults included," said a spokesperson from Scottsdale Aquatics, which is offering free swim lessons throughout August for both residents and non-residents. Browse classes and locations or see more details under Programs and Services.

To keep children safe around water, practice the ABCs of water safety:

- Adult supervision always.

- Barriers like pool gates and locks -- see what's required in Scottsdale.

- Classes and U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets.
