Scottsdale is proud to join more than 600 partners across the country celebrating Food Waste Prevention Week, a week-long campaign to raise awareness and inspire everyone to reduce food waste at home, work and in our communities.
According to a statement released by Scottsdale, the city will be sharing tips all week on social media to educate residents on simple changes they can make in their homes, including habits, composting, and donating food. Additionally, an event titled "Everyone Can Compost" is scheduled to take place at Mustang Library on Wednesday, April 3 at 11 a.m.
The initiative aims to address the significant impact of food waste on the environment. As stated, "Food waste is responsible for 40 percent of the material that goes into the landfill nationwide and ending food loss and waste requires purposeful action."
Furthermore, the benefits of reducing food waste were highlighted, including saving money, conserving resources, and improving food security. It was noted that a family of four can save an average of $1500 per year by reducing food waste and that resources such as land, water, energy, and human resources are used in the production and transportation of food.
In conclusion, Scottsdale encourages everyone to participate in Food Waste Prevention Week and learn how they can contribute to the reduction of food waste. For more information, residents can visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov or FoodWastePreventionWeek.com.
