Scottsdale’s Neighborhood Advisory Commission recently announced the 2023 winners of the Spirit of Scottsdale Awards. The awards program, established in 2019, recognizes individuals and organizations that embody the essence of Scottsdale through their contributions to the community.

The Individual Award winner for 2023 is Matthew Patzlaff, the principal of Navajo Elementary. Matt was nominated for his unwavering dedication to the students and his commitment to their well-being. According to the commission, Matt's daily efforts showcase a genuine passion for his job and the community he serves. As stated by the commission, "He truly embodies the Spirit of Scottsdale."

Meanwhile, Neighbors Helping Neighbors was honored as the 2023 Organization Award winner. The nonprofit organization, founded in Scottsdale in 2013, has been making a positive impact on the community for over a decade. Run entirely by volunteers, Neighbors Helping Neighbors focuses on providing support to those in need in Scottsdale. The organization channels every dollar donated directly back into the community, benefiting children, veterans, and low-income families.

The award recipients were recognized during the Scottsdale City Council's regular meeting, where they were presented with their well-deserved awards. The commission received a total of 17 nomination submissions for 2023, acknowledging the outstanding work of 16 individuals or organizations.
