Scottsdale recently welcomed Michael Beck as leader of the city’s public library system, bringing with him a wealth of experience in county and municipal government. Beck, who previously held the role of Adult Services Coordinator at Scottsdale Public Library, most recently served as the chief librarian in Glendale, where he spearheaded various initiatives and projects.

In a statement, Beck expressed his excitement about returning to Scottsdale, stating, “Being back in Scottsdale feels like coming home, it really does.” He emphasized his dedication to public service and the importance of libraries in providing free access to knowledge. Beck sees libraries as a vital community resource and believes in their role as the "People’s University."

Mayor David D. Ortega praised Scottsdale libraries as centers of community gatherings and diverse activities, noting the essential role they play in education and entertainment. He teased that Beck and his team are poised to create memorable experiences for library visitors, in line with the library’s motto of "Putting People at the Heart of Dynamic Library Services."

Looking ahead, Beck plans to engage with the library staff to understand their perspectives and enhance the Scottsdale Public Library experience. Outside of work, he is engaged in community service, enjoys outdoor activities, and appreciates cultural pursuits like movies and books.

Beck invites the community to visit the library branches, obtain library cards, and explore the resources and programs offered by the Scottsdale Public Library.
