U.S. Representative David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) said the ensuring the safety of the border has “never been a higher priority” as the immigration crisis continues without intervention from President Joe Biden.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Chief Agent Jason Owens told CBS News in a recent interview that he feels the situation at the border amount to a “national security threat.” The CBP is nearing one million apprehensions of migrants this fiscal year, meaning since Oct.

"That number is a large number, but what's keeping me up at night is the 140,000 known got-aways," Owens told CBS, referring to illegal immigrants who were detected by cameras or sensors but were not stopped by agents at the border. “Those things for us are what represent the threat to our communities."

David Schweikert, 61, was born in Los Angeles, California in 1962. He currently lives in Fountain Hills. Schweikert graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe in 1988 with a BS and again in 2005 from Arizona State University, Tempe.
