Scottsdale, a city known for its commitment to environmental stewardship, is relaunching its Sustainable Scottsdale Awards Program. The program aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions to sustainability and environmental stewardship within the Scottsdale community. Mayor David D. Ortega emphasized the city's dedication to responsible stewardship of the natural and built environments, stating, "The Sustainable Scottsdale Award Program honors the innovators and dedicated leaders who are shaping a sustainable Scottsdale as a model city, now and into the future."
The Sustainable Scottsdale Awards Program seeks to acknowledge exceptional leadership and innovation in sustainability, going beyond typical environmental practices. The program is open for nominations from the community, with submissions being accepted from projects and initiatives that focus on water conservation, renewable energy, sustainable practices, air and water quality improvement, recycling and waste management, energy efficiency, environmental education, and broader community impact.
To apply for the Sustainable Scottsdale Awards, interested individuals or organizations can visit the ScottsdaleAZ.gov website and search for "Sustainable Scottsdale Award." The online application must be completed, along with a narrative detailing the project's environmental impact, which should be between 500-750 words. Additionally, applicants have the option to include supporting materials such as data, photos, or videos.
The winners of the Sustainable Scottsdale Awards will be selected by the Scottsdale Environmental Advisory Commission. This commission consists of seven residents who have been appointed by the City Council and possess expertise in sustainability. The announcement of the winners is scheduled to take place during Scottsdale's annual Earth Week celebration in late April.
