City of Scottsdale issued the following announcement on Jan. 20.

Deadline approaching: Nominations are open for “All Star Awards.” Presented by Mayor David D. Ortega, the “All Star Awards” program highlights Scottsdale community members and organizations, that in 2021, received an award or honor, or participated in an exceptional, documented achievement. We will recognize winners at a special ceremony during the 68th annual Scottsdale Parada del Sol. Submit your nomination by Monday, Jan. 24.
COVID-19 UPDATE
COVID-19 by the numbers. Maricopa County has been tracking COVID-19 cases since Jan. 22, 2020. Review the latest numbers.
Scottsdale remains at high community transmission for 27th straight week. The city’s COVID-19 case rate has increased by 4.8% to 1,392.7 cases per 100,000 residents (week of Jan. 15). High transmission is defined as greater than 100 cases per 100,000 people. This does not include undetected cases of COVID-19, or unreported cases that have only been detected through an at-home test.
According to Maricopa County’s Vaccine Dashboard, 74.9% of eligible Scottsdale residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination dose, and 69.2% are fully vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is your best defense against getting or spreading COVID. Attend a city vaccine site (see below) or find another location.
Vaccines and boosters save lives, and we’re doing our part to help make testing and vaccinations more accessible. In partnership with Vincere Center Centers, the city is administering rapid COVID-19 testing for active infection (PCR and antigen) and Influenza A+B tests at the following locations:
- 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road
- 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays at Mustang Library, 10101 N. 90th St.
Free vaccine events also will continue through March at community centers. We’re offering the Pfizer vaccine (5 and older), and the Janssen and Moderna (both for 18 and older) vaccines:
- Horizon Community Center, 15444 N. 100th St.: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 28, Feb. 11 and 25, and March 11 and 25.
- Eldorado Park and Community Center, 2311 N. Miller Road: 1-4 p.m. Jan. 31, Feb. 14 and 28, and March 14 and 28.

Place your order for free at-home COVID-19 tests. Residential households can order one set of four free at-home tests. Here’s what you need to know:
- Limit of one order per residential address
- One order includes four individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests

Donate to Vista del Camino’s Professional Clothing Drive, Jan. 24-28. The Vista del Camino Career Closet assists local job seekers needing professional outfits, work clothes or shoes for interviews and/or office jobs. Gently used clothing for men and women in all sizes is appreciated, but plus sizes are especially needed. The Career Closet also accepts gently used bras, socks, belts, ties and shoes. New undergarments, cosmetics and toiletries are also wanted. Drop off your donations betwee 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. weekdays at Vista del Camino Community Center, 7700 E. Roosevelt St.
The Police Citizens Academy offers a behind-the-scenes look into the Scottsdale Police Department. This program provides participants an up-close look at how the police department operates to help residents understand what we do, how we do it and why we do it. Classes begin Feb. 17, and run 6-8:30 p.m. nine consecutive Thursday evenings. Attend in-person or virtually. Apply now as seats will fill quickly. Learn more.

Scottsdale completes solar bollard lighting project to illuminate dark sidewalk near Camelback Road and 78th Street. Originally brought to the city’s attention by a resident, the sidewalk lacked lighting and became a safety hazard during the evenings. The project team sought innovative solutions such as receiving a Loss Control Grant and arranging for in-house installation to complete the project. We selected solar bollard lighting because it is significantly less expensive, has less of an impact to the surrounding neighbors and is quicker to install without underground wiring. The lights are now in place and provide a safe pathway for residents in the Villa Monterey and Scottsdale Shadows neighborhoods.
