Week ending Aug. 22: 8 patents granted in Scottsdale

Patent 13

There were eight patents granted in Scottsdale in the week ending Aug. 22, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is eight less than the week before. Patents included an integrated vehicle guidance and steering system.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 22 belonged to Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of Arizona State University who filed in Aug. 10, 2017.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
