During Arizona's primary election, Rep. Nancy Barto has shown a lead on incumbent Sen. Heath Carter for Senate District 15.
Barto led with 52%, while Carter was slightly behind, with 48% in Maricopa County, AZ Central reported.
Carter is the current senator of the district and if primary election results pull through to the general election, Carter may receive the boot to Barto.
Carter has proven herself to be an "annoyance" for the Republican party, AZ Central reported. One example said she held up the budget passage last year, according to AZ Central.
She has also expressed resentment to conservatives, especially in matter of LGBT rights. This led Barto to making the accusation that Carter is betraying the conservatives.
Carter made her own arguments against Barto. She unsuccessfully argued Barto's views on transgender rights and vaccinations were "too radical," AZ Central reported. But this didn't sway Republican voters in the 15th district from voting for Barto as seen by the primary results.
