Late last month, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved a set of plans for the August primary elections that seeks to prioritize the health and safety of voters and poll workers, according to a news release on the county's website.
The Election Day and Emergency Voting Plan, which was passed on June 22, expands the number of Election Day polling locations for voters to choose from, institutes social distancing and proper sanitization practices at voting locations, and allows voters to cast their ballots in the evenings or on the weekends.
The Early Voting Plan increases access to voting by mail, implement safety protocols for ballot processing, and seeks to conduct voter outreach and education.
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Clint Hickman said the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the board to make changes, and Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes said it is the county’s goal to make voting by mail easier and in-person voting safer.
