The City of Scottsdale is taking steps to ensure its residents are prepared for emergencies and informed about upcoming city events and projects. In an effort to promote readiness, the city encourages citizens to "be READY: always be prepared for potential emergencies; get SET by maintaining awareness of events that may force evacuation; and GO, evacuate immediately as instructed by emergency authorities." A significant item on the agenda for the upcoming City Council meeting on May 21 is the consideration of the Community Sustainability Plan. This plan is part of Scottsdale's commitment to sustainability and addresses environmental challenges with practical solutions. The public is invited to comment during the meeting at City Hall Kiva.
In observance of Memorial Day, most city offices will be closed on May 27. However, recycling and garbage collection services will continue as usual. A Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen.
Residents are encouraged to participate in various public meetings scheduled for this week, including sessions with the Audit Committee, Tourism Development Commission, and Planning Commission among others.
Scottsdale offers several activities aimed at promoting community engagement and healthy living. These include a free screening of “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” on May 23 and a presentation by Marshall Shore on Arizona’s LGBTQ+ history on June 1.
As summer approaches, June Days will offer daily activities celebrating local culture in Old Town Scottsdale. Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West will also host classic Western film screenings starting June 2.
Ongoing events include dive-in movies at Eldorado Aquatic Center, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park's Summer Concert Series, Scottsdale ArtWalks, and Old Town Scottsdale's Farmers Market.
Infrastructure improvements are underway with projects such as a new pedestrian underpass along Indian Bend Multiuse Path beginning construction on May 20. Additionally, preparations are being made for a new dog park at Thompson Peak Park with completion expected next year.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) advises drivers of restrictions related to Loop 101 improvements through May 24 and beyond. Repaving work along Scottsdale Road continues until May 30 as part of pavement preservation efforts.
