Scottsdale has been recognized as the top Healthiest Employer in the Valley by the Phoenix Business Journal. The city received first place in the "large companies" category, which includes organizations with 1,500 to 4,999 employees, at the annual Healthiest Employers event presented by Cigna.

The award acknowledges Scottsdale's commitment to wellness through initiatives that engage and support employees beyond traditional exercise and nutrition programs. Lynna Soller, human resources benefits manager, stated that their program encompasses various aspects of employees' lives such as financial, social, emotional, physical, and mental health. This comprehensive approach has led to increased engagement in health and personal care activities and a more productive workforce.

Support for these wellness efforts comes from all levels within the city. Soller noted that leaders including the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and Executive Team actively participate in encouraging employee involvement. Examples include departmental contests and managers organizing walking meetings.

One of Scottsdale's key wellness initiatives is My Financial Wellness Planner. This program was developed in collaboration with Nationwide and Cigna to help employees understand their financial situations better and set goals using SMART criteria. Nationwide reported that Scottsdale had the highest participation rate among cities involved in developing this pilot program.

Additionally, Scottsdale promotes positive mental health at work by providing resources such as a Mental Health Care Kit mailed to employees' homes. The city plans to further tailor these kits for first responders through behavioral health sub-committees. Moreover, an onsite Employee Assistance Program provider is available two days a week along with outside hours.

Soller expressed pride in receiving the award: "Scottsdale is honored to win this award and it is a testament to our belief that self-care is a sign of strength." She emphasized Scottsdale's dedication to creating an inclusive work environment: "We’re a Scottsdale family, and we’re all in this together."
