Twenty-three years later, the program now comprises 16 highly trained dog-and-handler teams who ensure the safety of patients, team members and visitors.

James Marconato, K-9 Security Program supervisor, oversees daily operations and ensures success of the trained handlers and protection dogs. Reflecting on the importance of K-9 teams in a hospital setting, he says, “While the K-9 is highly trained and vigilant, he also provides a comforting and friendly presence for visitors and staff.”

Since 2015, the HonorHealth K-9 Security Program has completed 155 area/building searches, responded to 427 standby calls and made 1,205 public relations contacts.

We are proud to recognize all our K-9 units for their dedication to making HonorHealth a safe place to work and heal. To support this special program, visit HonorHealthFoundation.org.
