Gergits, a board-certified ear, nose and throat specialist who centers his practice around compassionate care, has joined the staff at Sinus & Allergy Wellness Center. Gergits is excited to bring new, innovative solutions to the clinic's patients.

Sinus & Allergy Wellness Center offers a variety of testing and treatment options for allergies, sinus, ear infections, deviated septum, sleep apnea, sinusitis and more. The office is located at 8573 East Princess Drive, Suite B 111, in Scottsdale.

"I am very passionate about what I do," Gergits told NE Valley Times. "I couldn't imagine myself in any other field or any other job or occupation. In medicine, I can't imagine myself in any other occupation other than ear, nose, and throat and taking care of patients with nasal/sinus disease."

Gergits earned a degree in chemistry from West Virginia University before earning his master's degree in biochemistry from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. From there, Gergits went on to earn his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Being an otolaryngologist wasn't on his radar at the time, however.

"Back in the day, my uncle, who had just retired as a dentist, encouraged me to consider dentistry as a field for employment," he said. "So I thought about that and going through medical school or undergraduate and then graduate school. I started to realize that being a dentist was very appealing and enticing."

He said he soon "got tired of taking care of teeth," but instead of reinventing himself, he pivoted to ENT, an area of medicine with which he was already familiar.

"As a child, I had bad nosebleeds and I also had tonsillitis," Gergits said. "I had a chance to be at the same ear, nose and throat doctor on multiple occasions, and he had an impact on me. So it drew me to this profession."

Gergits said ENT just "fell into my lap," having volunteered with the ear, nose and throat residents in Philadelphia. "I just fell in love, and (that’s) where I am."

Gergits was the first physician in Pennsylvania to perform balloon sinuplasty, a relatively new treatment for sinusitis.

"I love the challenge of patients coming in and having some troubles that might be a bit more unique – something that makes me think and maybe do a little research," he said. "I'm definitely driven to make sure that my patients get the best outcomes, as best I can."

Gergits credits the staff at Sinus & Allergy Wellness Center for making his transition easier, and he enjoys the camaraderie he has as the staff works together to assist patients.

"(I like) that we can really be impactful for patients who come into our office with multiple different problems," he said. "Oftentimes, we see patients who come in and might have a problem breathing through their nose. After we take care of their nasal and sinus issues, they realize that maybe they were living with a low-grade underlying daily headache that they never realized was present until it was gone."

One of Gergits' favorite parts of the job is helping his patients live comfortably.

"There's so many different variables that we can approach to help patients," he said. "(We can improve their) quality of life, and they can get back to their normal, daily routines without having to worry about all those problems that we associated with nasal/sinus troubles."

Gergits is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Otolaryngology and an active member of other professional organizations. He has written articles on topics such as urticaria, angioedema and pulmonary mechanics, which have been published in peer-reviewed journals.

He also has been honored with the Philadelphia County Medical Society’s Humaneness in Medicine award.

Sinus & Allergy Wellness Center offers a Sinus Self-Assessment Quiz for those who want to learn more about how their sinus or allergy problems are impacting their daily lives.
