Another Career Round Propels Sommerhauser Up Leaderboards

Announcement

University of Arizona Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 11.

After carding the best round of his career with a 66 on Friday, sophomore Sam Sommerhauser bested his performance in Saturday's second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate by shooting a 63 on Saturday. Sommerhauser vaulted up the leaderboards into a tie for first place at 11-under par with one round to go.

"Sam continues to play the best golf of his young career and displaying confidence in every shot and putt," said head coach Jim Anderson. "His bogey-free round of 7-under par really set the tone for our team as we saw improved scores throughout the lineup from yesterday. I'm looking forward to see continued improvement tomorrow with more lower scores."

The Wildcats enter Sunday's final round tied with California for seventh place at 8-under par as the entire field is chasing Georgia Tech and Clemson who both eclipsed the 30-under par mark on Saturday.

Senior Santeri Lehesmaa, who shot a 3-over round of 73 on Friday, exemplified the team's improved scoring by carding an even round of 70 on Saturday. Christian Banke and Chaz Aurilia both ended their second rounds at 1-over par.

Banke and Sommerhauser give Arizona a pair of slots in the top 15 of the overall leaderboard heading into Sunday's third and final round at Mirabel Golf Club.
