Incumbent John Kavanagh and Joseph Chaplik have secured the Republican nominations for Arizona House of Representatives District 23.
Ballotpedia reports more than 68,000 votes were cast with Kavanagh receiving 43.8% of the votes and Chaplik receiving 28.6%. Both defeated incumbent Jay Lawrence who obtained 27.6% of the votes.
The total numbers for each Republican candidate were as follows: Kavanagh, 29,928 votes; Chaplik, 19,505 votes; and Lawrence, 18,844 votes.
Kavanagh and Chaplik will both advance to the general election where they will battle for the two District 23 seats alongside Eric Kurland. Kurland ran opposed in the Democratic primary and received all 26,964 votes.
Kavanagh has previously served as a member of the Arizona State Senate where he also represented District 23, according to Ballotpedia. He has served on numerous committees for the Arizona GOP House including the Appropriations Committee, Government and Higher Education Committee and Public Safety Committee.
