Despite an announcement made two months before close, Wright Architecture School officials have since stated that the school would remain open.
This change came in light of new funding.
In January, the board for the Taliesin School of Architecture announced plans to close by June. The announcement came after the school’s biggest financial supporters, the board itself and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation failed to acquire sufficient funds to keep the school open.
Frank Lloyd Wright had started the school nearly 90 years ago. The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation said it had little information on new funding sources.
Dan Schweiker, board chairman, said that new supporters had come forward such as the former dean of the University of Southern California’s architecture school, Qingyun Ma. Ma has committed to sending six students in August and a further 12 by 2021.
During Wright's lifetime, up until his death in 1959 at the age of 91, Taliesin West was the architect's sanctuary.
