State lawmakers in Arizona rank around the middle of the pack across the country in annual compensation, according to an analysis of legislator salaries by the National Conference of State Legislatures.
At $24,000 a year, the state ranks right behind Iowa at $25,000 and just ahead of Mississippi at $23,500.
In addition, legislators in Arizona are reimbursed mileage or travel outlays of 58 cents per mile and receive per-diem payments consisting of at least $35 per day for the first 120 days of the session.
Salaries for lawmakers in Arizona can be established by statute, legislatures or compensation commissions. State lawmakers also are also eligible to receive insurance and retirement benefits, as well as office and staffing allowances.
Lawmakers in California earn the highest annual salary at $110,459.
