Salt River Project (SRP) and the Arizona Cardinals have continued their partnership for the seventh year through the Touchdowns for Teachers program. The initiative awards $500 grants to two teachers each time the Cardinals score a touchdown during the football season.

This year, 80 teachers were awarded grants totaling $40,000, based on the 40 touchdowns scored by the team. SRP has committed to provide an additional $20,000 this season to meet its annual pledge of $60,000 in support for the program.

“With this support, I plan to enrich my classroom by providing literature and resources that will greatly benefit my ESL students,” said Miriam Muñoz, ELD Teacher at Carl Hayden Community High School. “Additionally, I teach a leadership class called Latinos in Action, for which I intend to purchase necessary supplies to support our leadership projects as well as our Literature Garden.”

Since its launch, Touchdowns for Teachers has provided more than $400,000 in funding for classrooms across Arizona. The grants help educators buy essential resources that create learning opportunities otherwise unavailable.

“At SRP, we understand that when teachers have more resources, everyone in the community benefits,” said Anita Tarango, Manager of Community Engagement Strategy at SRP. “Our partnership with the Arizona Cardinals can help reach many families and raise awareness about education initiatives, ensuring that more teachers know about available resources.”

SRP supports educators with over $2 million annually through various teacher resources and grant programs. These efforts include hands-on workshops and other initiatives designed to help teachers innovate and build supportive classroom environments.

SRP is a not-for-profit public power utility serving approximately 1.1 million electricity customers in the greater Phoenix area and delivering water to about 2.5 million residents each year.
