Scottsdale is continuing its recovery efforts after a severe monsoon on September 26 caused significant flooding across the city. According to city officials, Street Operations teams focused on public safety by clearing main roads within 24 hours, secondary roads within 48 hours, and residential streets within 72 hours. Recovered granite from the cleanup was reused to repair and stabilize roadways, a move city staff described as sustainable. The Indian Bend Wash flood control system worked as intended, channeling stormwater through the city, though some spillway damage near Indian School Road required repairs.
City facilities such as Scottsdale Stadium and WestWorld experienced flooding but were able to reopen quickly due to prompt action by city staff. Eldorado Park remains under repair after being one of the hardest-hit areas. Residents have reached out by phone and online to thank crews for their efforts in restoring services and ensuring safety after the storm.

At its September 30 meeting, the Scottsdale City Council amended the zoning ordinance regarding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to comply with state law HB2928. The new law allows for more ADUs to be built on residential lots. ADUs are self-contained units that include their own kitchen and bathroom facilities and may be rented separately from the main house. “Scottsdale opposed this legislation due to its potential impact on neighborhoods and the elimination of local control, but when the bill became law, the city then had to proceed with updating its zoning ordinance via a text amendment (4-TA-2024#2).”
