Scottsdale has been named a Top Performer in the 2025 Best in Governance Awards, receiving national recognition for its economic leadership. The awards highlight excellence in local government based on resident feedback and measurable performance indicators. Scottsdale was recognized in the Economy category, placing it among the leading cities in the country for livability and responsive leadership.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our team and the trust our residents place in us,” said Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton. “It reinforces our focus on providing exceptional services and fostering an economy where our community can thrive.”

The city has pursued several initiatives to support economic growth. These include a $40 million revitalization plan for Old Town Scottsdale, which involves expanding the Brown Avenue parking structure, constructing a new parking garage in the Entertainment District, and making streetscape and pedestrian improvements on Main Street. The city has also completed or started upgrades to parks and recreation facilities, such as the recently opened Ashler Hills Park and the Thompson Peak Dog Park, which is under construction and will feature three play areas, restrooms, and a connecting footbridge. Investments in public safety continue as well, with the addition of the Scottsdale Police Department’s Realtime Crime Center, the new Fire Station 612, and expanded ambulance service.

The Best in Governance Awards recognized only five communities out of more than 150 nationwide as top performers in each category. Winners were selected using data from The National Community Survey and Polco’s Government Performance Action & Learning performance measures, which incorporate resident input and reliable community outcome metrics.

“Economic success in Scottsdale is built on strong partnerships between our businesses, residents and city leadership,” said Josh Utterback, interim director of Economic Development. “This award affirms that our collective efforts are making a meaningful impact on quality of life and economic opportunity across the community.”
