Scottsdale is preparing for a busy winter season as several major events return to the city. The WM Phoenix Open, scheduled from February 2 to 8 at TPC Scottsdale, will open with the Concert in the Coliseum and is expected to draw large crowds while supporting local charities. Following this, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show will take place from February 12 to 22, marking its 71st year. Spring Training will also return to Scottsdale Stadium from February 22 through March 22, featuring the San Francisco Giants and including a movie night on February 28 at Scottsdale Civic Center.

To accommodate visitors for the WM Phoenix Open, several road closures are in effect until February 9. These include Greenway Hayden Loop from Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard to Bell Road, Bell Road from Greenway Hayden Loop to 82nd Street, and 82nd Street from Bell Road to Princess Drive/Pima Road. The Scottsdale Police Department has activated the RAVE emergency alert system for event-specific updates; attendees can subscribe by texting GOLF26 to 67283. Streets affected by closures are expected to reopen after event equipment is cleared, with all roads open by February 12.

The city has issued an update regarding a recent phishing scam targeting residents and businesses who have interacted with Planning and Development services. According to officials, “The city of Scottsdale does not request payment through unsolicited emails from individual staff members.” They further state that “Legitimate city payments are processed through official city systems and secure webpages, not through direct email requests.” One resident submitted a payment in response to a fraudulent invoice; this incident was reported via the Integrity Line and referred to both the Scottsdale Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Cyber Division. There is no evidence that city systems were compromised.

Officials advise residents: “Only trust official city emails that come from addresses ending in @ScottsdaleAZ.gov.” They recommend checking sender addresses carefully and avoiding clicking links or downloading attachments from unexpected messages. Suspected phishing attempts should be deleted immediately and reported through Constituent Services.

Several public meetings are scheduled during the week of February 2, including sessions for the Veterans Advisory Commission on Wednesday and McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission on Thursday. The following week will feature meetings of the Human Relations Commission and Library Board.

Community events continue throughout February. A Galentine’s Day Brunch is set for noon on Wednesday, February 4 at Via Linda Senior Center; tickets cost $10 for residents. The weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk continues Thursdays between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., with themed Gold Palette ArtWalks held monthly.

Educational programs include Neighborhood College seminars such as “Nightmare in McCormick Ranch” on Tuesday, February 3 at Holland Community Center—exploring a high-profile homicide case—and “Community Associations Deserve a Reserve!” about HOA reserve studies on Tuesday, February 10 at Scottsdale Community Design Studio.

The city’s Aquatics division is hiring part-time lifeguard/instructors focused on safety education at municipal pools.

Barrett-Jackson week recently increased activity at Scottsdale Airport with over one hundred aircraft arrivals recorded during peak days.

Additionally, Parks and Recreation will host its first Emo Picnic at Civic Center on Friday, February 27—a free event featuring food vendors and live music.

Last week marked the start of Academy Class 26-1 at the Fire Department Regional Training Center where recruits from multiple agencies began their firefighter training program.

Residents can access information about reporting issues or finding traffic updates via resources such as the City of Scottsdale website.
