While police departments nationwide face challenges in staffing and handling call volumes, the Scottsdale Police Department stands out for its proactive and community-focused approach. This success is attributed to strong support from the Scottsdale City Council and City Manager Greg Caton.

Strategic investments have allowed the department to maintain staffing levels, support specialized units, and equip patrol officers to both respond to and prevent crime. “Because of the support we receive from city leadership, we are not just keeping up with public safety needs. We are staying ahead of them,” said Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc.

Scottsdale’s specialized units enable proactive engagement with the community and early intervention in emerging threats. Units such as the Burglary and Property Crimes Unit, Public Order Unit, School Resource Officers, Crisis K9 Unit, Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit, Repeat Offenders Unit, Street Crimes Unit, Short-Term Rental Unit, Park Ranger Unit, and Crime Analysis Unit play key roles in prevention and response efforts.

“These units allow us to be agile and deliberate in our approach,” LeDuc stated. “We’re not just showing up after a crime happens — we’re working every day to prevent it.”

The operational strength of the department is supported by city leadership prioritizing safe neighborhoods. In June, a $2.204 billion budget was adopted for fiscal year 2025/26 that includes investments in officer compensation, staffing, equipment, and technology. This positions Scottsdale Police among the top three highest-paid law enforcement agencies in the Valley.

“Our community expects a high standard of public safety,” said City Manager Greg Caton. “Investing in police staffing ensures Scottsdale remains not only a safe city but also a forward-thinking one.”

Additionally, Scottsdale Police maintain partnerships with regional, state, and federal agencies like the FBI and ATF to combat organized crime effectively. “We are able to engage in meaningful investigations,” added LeDuc.
