U.S. Representative David Schweikert announced on May 8 that a Passport Acceptance Fair will be held in Scottsdale to assist residents with passport-related questions and applications.
The event aims to help community members understand the process of applying for or renewing a U.S. passport, as well as options for expedited service. This is important for those planning international travel who may need assistance navigating the application process or require faster processing times.
According to Schweikert, first-time applicants must apply in person at a designated Passport Acceptance Office and can find more information through the U.S. Department of State’s search engine. “If you already have a passport that is not damaged, was issued in the past 15 years, was received after your 16th birthday, and has your same name, you can apply for a passport renewal by mail,” Schweikert said. He also advised those needing faster service: “Yes. For an additional fee, you can request expedited processing which currently takes 5-7 weeks.” More details are available on the Expedited Service Page at the U.S. Consular Affairs website or by calling their hotline.
Residents seeking help with passport issues are encouraged to contact Schweikert’s Scottsdale District Office staff at 480-946-2411.
Schweikert is currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Arizona’s 1st district and has held this position since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011, according to Ballotpedia. He previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995 and graduated from Arizona State University with degrees earned in both 1988 and 2005.
Looking ahead, local residents who plan international trips are advised to check their passports’ validity well before departure dates due to standard processing times.
