The city of Scottsdale has been recognized by Forbes as the top public employer in Arizona. The ranking is based on surveys of employees and the public, covering areas such as workplace culture, professional development, benefits, and compensation. Among all Arizona companies, Scottsdale placed eighth overall, sharing the top ten with major national brands like Apple, Microsoft, and Costco. The city of Phoenix was also included in the top ten at number ten, making Scottsdale and Phoenix the only municipal governments to achieve this distinction.
City Manager Greg Caton commented on the recognition: “It is no surprise that Scottsdale ranks so highly and ranked with respected national companies because of our long-standing commitment to attracting and keeping the best employees. Our community is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live, and city employees are committed to offering excellent programming, services and operations for our residents. In turn, we are committed to cultivating an amazing culture for our city staff so they can enjoy a workplace where people are supported and empowered.”
Scottsdale has developed a reputation as a destination for top talent by offering competitive salaries and benefits as well as workforce development programs. The city employs about 2,800 people across a range of professional disciplines and promotes a culture of teamwork and innovation.
The city’s motto, “Simply Better Service for a World-Class Community,” is reflected in its operations. Employees are recognized through annual awards programs and events such as a family picnic and a “hard hat breakfast” for field staff.
Caton added: “Scottsdale is a special community, our staff are proud to be part of it, and we’re committed to making our workplace the best it can be.”
Monica Boyd, senior director of Scottsdale’s human resources department, said: “It is a true honor to be recognized by Forbes as a top employer in Arizona. We put a lot of effort into creating a positive work environment, and this recognition, which is not something we sought out or applied for, is evidence that those efforts are making a difference for our staff.”
Forbes created the ranking in partnership with Statista by surveying more than 160,000 employees at companies with at least 500 workers across the United States. Respondents were asked about their likelihood to recommend their employer and evaluated workplaces on wage parity, culture, advancement opportunities, and how employers address serious issues. Companies did not pay a fee to participate or be selected.
