At the October 21 City Council meeting, a majority of Scottsdale City Council members approved spending nearly $2 million in taxpayer funds to install solar panel canopies over 61 parking spaces at City Hall. The project aims to provide covered parking for city employees.

Council members Jan Dubauskas, Barry Graham, Kathy Littlefield, Solange Whitehead, and Maryann McAllen voted in favor of the measure. Mayor Lisa Borowsky and Vice Mayor Adam Kwasman opposed it.

Mayor Borowsky issued a statement following the vote: “I voted against this measure, as did Vice Mayor Adam Kwasman, because we believe this is a clear example of misplaced priorities and poor fiscal stewardship,” Mayor Borowsky said.

During the Town Hall held on October 29 at Mustang Library, Mayor Borowsky discussed her perspective on the council’s decision regarding the use of public funds for the solar canopy project.
