Residents in Scottsdale are being invited to take part in interactive walking events aimed at gathering input for the city’s Transportation Safety Plan. The City of Scottsdale has scheduled a series of short, guided walks across four neighborhoods on October 24 and 25. The events will allow participants to discuss their experiences and concerns related to walking, biking, or driving in the city.
The sessions will take place at Vista del Camino (Roosevelt St. & Miller Rd.) and Mountainview Community Center (Mountainview Rd. & Via Linda) on Friday, October 24, as well as Grayhawk Community Association (Hayden Rd. & Thompson Peak Pkwy.) and Horizon Park (100th St. & Thompson Peak Pkwy.) on Saturday, October 25. Each walk is expected to last between 45 and 60 minutes over a distance of up to half a mile, ending with a group discussion for feedback.
Dan Burden, described as an internationally recognized expert on livable communities, along with local transportation planner Betty Drake, will lead the assessments. They will help participants identify ways to improve safety and enjoyment in Scottsdale’s neighborhoods.
Participation is open to all ages and abilities, including those using mobility devices or strollers. There is no cost to join but advance registration is required. Residents can sign up for the session nearest them and will receive details about meeting locations by email.
“Feedback gathered during these events will help city planners develop Scottsdale’s comprehensive Transportation Safety Plan, a community-driven effort to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers alike,” according to the City of Scottsdale.
Participants are also encouraged to recommend additional areas for future assessments or note any accessibility or language needs when registering.
