The Scottsdale Fire Department is expanding its operations in southern Scottsdale with the construction of a new ambulance annex next to Fire Station 601 at 1901 N. Miller Road.

“This expansion supports Scottsdale’s city-operated ambulance program, ensuring continued rapid and efficient response to both emergency and non-emergency calls,” said Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon.

The city will hold an open house to provide information about the project from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Eldorado Community Center, 2311 N. Miller Road. There will be no formal presentation; residents can attend at any time during the event to review plans, ask questions, and learn more.

The planned annex will serve as a dormitory and operational base for ambulance personnel. It will include offices, a kitchen, dining area, bathrooms, medical storage space, three vehicle bays for two ambulances and one supervisor vehicle.

The facility will be located just north of Fire Station 601 and use the existing driveway at the Granada Road alignment. Planned exterior features include landscaping, parking spaces on-site, a mechanical equipment yard, and perimeter security fencing designed to fit with the surrounding community.

In 2024, Scottsdale shifted ambulance services from private contracts to an in-house operation. This change made it necessary to add more space for staff and vehicles so that emergency medical services could continue without interruption.

Fire Station 601 has served its current area since opening in 2011. Its service zone covers approximately 37,500 residents and visitors.
