The City of Scottsdale has appointed Jenna Kohl as its new preserve director. With over 25 years of experience in executive leadership within community-focused organizations, Kohl is set to assume her new role on September 22.
Kohl brings a wealth of expertise in advancing strategic initiatives, planning, stakeholder engagement, and team development. Her most recent position was as the executive director of DC Ranch, where she led capital improvements and sustainability efforts while collaborating closely with boards and teams.
Before her tenure at DC Ranch, Kohl served as the community executive officer for Anthem. In this role, she managed operations for a master-planned community with 26,000 residents. Her career also includes leadership roles in Illinois municipal government, such as assistant village manager.
“Jenna’s deep experience in local government and community leadership, paired with her personal passion for the Sonoran Desert, make her an ideal fit for this important role,” said Nick Molinari, the city’s senior director of parks & recreation and preserve.
City Manager Greg Caton added his support: “The preserve is one of Scottsdale’s most treasured community assets, and Jenna’s leadership will ensure we continue to protect, manage and enhance it with the care it deserves. We are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
Kohl holds a Master of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Drake University. As a resident of Scottsdale and an alumna of Scottsdale Leadership, she enjoys hiking and exploring trails within the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
In her new position as preserve director, Kohl will be responsible for overseeing Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This protected desert habitat covers nearly 30,000 acres and features more than 225 miles of trails that offer various recreational activities like hiking and biking.
