Nightly closures are scheduled for Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard at Loop 101 as part of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s ongoing project to add lanes and improve interchanges between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road. East and westbound lanes will be closed through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, for bridge painting. Additional closures for westbound lanes will take place from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, through 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24.
The City of Scottsdale is launching a series of neighborhood outreach events as part of the City Council’s 2025/26 priorities. The first event, “What’s in my backyard?”, will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Fire Station 613. Residents are invited to an open house with food, activities, and opportunities to speak with city staff about local projects and services. Registration is requested.
Residents are encouraged to participate in interactive walking events on Oct. 24 and 25 to provide input on Scottsdale’s Transportation Safety Plan. These walks, each covering a short distance, aim to gather feedback on the city’s infrastructure for walking, biking, and driving. Participation is free, but space is limited and reservations are required.
Scottsdale Water recently concluded its 2025 Citizen Water Academy, an educational program offering residents a behind-the-scenes look at the city’s water utility. Over 30 participants took part in presentations, facility tours, and demonstrations to learn about Scottsdale’s water supply and treatment processes.
The City of Scottsdale was named the top public employer in Arizona by Forbes and ranked eighth overall among the state’s 75 best employers. The city is one of only two municipal governments in the top ten, alongside Phoenix. The rankings were based on surveys of over 160,000 U.S. employees, evaluating workplace culture, benefits, compensation, and professional development.
The Scottsdale City Council Subcommittee on Community Safety held its inaugural meeting. The subcommittee focuses on reviewing policies and strategies to strengthen public safety and address community concerns. Members include Vice Mayor Adam Kwasman, Council members Jan Dubauskas and Kathy Littlefield, with support from City Manager Greg Caton, Interim City Attorney Luis Santaella, and Police Chief Joe LeDuc.
Several public meetings are scheduled for the week of Oct. 20, including sessions of the Tourism Development Commission, City Council, Neighborhood Advisory Commission, Airport Advisory Commission, and Planning Commission.
Upcoming community events include Scottsdale Dia de Los Muertos at Scottsdale Civic Center from Oct. 23-26, featuring cultural performances and a procession. Actor Kevin Costner will attend a “Field of Dreams” movie night at Scottsdale Stadium on Oct. 25, following the Western Wiffle Ball Classic championship game. The Halloween Spook-Track-ula event at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park runs through Oct. 31, with a special trick-or-treating night on the final day.
Other ongoing programs include art walks, performances at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, and educational workshops such as irrigation controller programming and neighborhood college sessions for community associations.
The deadline for the Sustainable Scottsdale Awards has been extended to Nov. 21. The awards recognize individuals and organizations for their sustainability efforts in the city.
The city is also seeking applicants for a senior accountant position, which involves supporting financial reporting and analysis for city operations.
Recent highlights include a birthday celebration for Scottsdale Police’s K9 Cache and the introduction of Finnley, a new search and rescue canine with the Scottsdale Fire Department.
