The city of Scottsdale announced on March 20 that it will partner with the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council to launch a new Scottsdale-themed Girl Scout patch, with a community celebration scheduled for March 28 at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.

The initiative aims to encourage local Girl Scouts to explore their city through activities such as visiting museums, volunteering, and learning about civic engagement. The patch was designed by a local fifth-grade Girl Scout and reflects the values of service, curiosity, and connection.

Mayor Lisa Borowsky said, “Scottsdale is a community built on service, curiosity and connection, and this patch brings those values to life for our young residents. We are proud to partner with the Girl Scouts to create meaningful opportunities for girls to explore their city, build confidence and discover how they can make a difference.”

The one-hour event will honor the designer of the patch, provide details on how scouts can earn it, and feature guest speakers along with hands-on activities. Families are encouraged to stay after the ceremony to enjoy park amenities. The program aligns with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience by focusing on girl-led exploration in areas such as STEM, outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship.

Scottsdale has long attracted artists and health seekers while blending Western heritage with cultural activities according to its official history page. The city operates various departments and recreational spaces like parks and golf courses in Indian Bend Wash as shown in its organizational chart. Forbes ranked Scottsdale among the top 15 safest U.S. cities over 100,000 population according to its recognition page.

By 2000, Scottsdale’s population surpassed 202,000 across approximately 185 square miles according to its official history page. The city uses a council-manager government structure where legislative authority rests with the council as described on its website. Known as ‘The West’s Most Western Town,’ Scottsdale embraces both ranching roots and tourism appeal per its official history page.

The partnership between Scottsdale and the Girl Scouts highlights ongoing efforts to foster youth engagement while celebrating local heritage.
