Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman who won re-election in 2024 against Amish Shah and previously defeated Jevin Hodge in 2022, used his social media account to highlight legislative oversight achievements, mark the New Year, and comment on recent international developments.

On January 1, 2026, Schweikert outlined actions taken by the House Ways and Means Committee over the past year. In his post he stated: “Here’s what oversight @WaysandMeansGOP delivered this year:

Postponed tax burdens for Americans hit by natural disasters.
Required IRS notice when it alters returns.
Advanced Tax Court reforms to empower taxpayers over the IRS.
Ended Biden’s Direct File program.
” (January 1, 2026).

Later that day, Schweikert shared a message welcoming the new year: “Happy New Year! Here’s to a year of steady growth, straight talk on the fiscal math, and a government that follows through.” (January 1, 2026).

On January 3, Schweikert addressed recent events in Venezuela following reports of leadership change: “Nicholas Maduro was a dictator, a drug dealer, and a thug who needed to go. Thanks to our brave military, that has now happened. It is my hope that with the scourge of Maduro now removed, the Venezuelan people can choose a rightfully elected leader in a free and fair election.” (January 3, 2026).

Schweikert’s comments come after securing his congressional seat in consecutive elections—winning with just over half of the vote against both Amish Shah in 2024 and Jevin Hodge in 2022.
