Rep. David Schweikert, U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, used his social media platform on April 13, 2026, to comment on issues related to energy policy and federal spending.

In a post from the morning of April 13, Schweikert criticized California’s energy policies and their impact on Arizona residents: “California shuts down refining capacity. Arizona families pay the price.

About 33% of our gasoline and diesel still comes from California. One economic report warned those shutdowns could cost Arizona families another $2 a gallon.

I urged President Trump to use the Defense https://t.co/pxNwJtB5U3” (April 13, 2026).

Later that day, he addressed concerns about federal fiscal management: “FOR EVERY $1 WASHINGTON TAKES IN, IT SPENDS $1.47.

Anyone calling this sustainable either can’t do math or doesn’t care about your kids. https://t.co/qXOww5V3T0” (April 13, 2026).

In an evening update, Schweikert provided figures on the national deficit: “MARCH ALONE: $164 BILLION DEFICIT.

We are already at $1.169 trillion this fiscal year. CBO still says this year lands at $1.853 trillion.

Start with the hundreds of billions in redundant waste spread across government agencies.” (April 13, 2026).

Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st District since replacing Harry Mitchell in Congress in 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills. In recent election cycles, he won reelection against Amish Shah in 2024 with just over half the vote and narrowly defeated Jevin Hodge in the previous cycle.
