Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, raised concerns about fraud in state Medicaid programs and federal healthcare spending in a series of posts on his Twitter account between May 12 and May 14, 2026.
On May 12, Schweikert wrote: “Fraudsters are exploiting state Medicaid programs funded in large part by federal borrowing. Home health is supposed to serve the sickest Americans. Instead, it is being abused at the expense of the most vulnerable.”
The following day, he posted further details regarding hospice and home health care fraud: “Hospice and home health, both funded by borrowed federal money, are rampant with fraud. In Los Angeles, hospice agencies grew 1,500%, representing 18% of all hospice billing despite serving only 2.5% of the senior population. New York’s Medicaid program allows patients to hire”.
On May 14, Schweikert shared his broader perspective on national fiscal issues: “My view is that the country’s most pressing problems, and their optimal solutions, can be understood through what I call a Unified Theory for Fiscal Solvency. The Committee’s staff economists and I have developed a framework for what policymakers must confront, how we got here,”.
Schweikert has held his congressional seat since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011 after previously serving in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills. He graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe with degrees earned in both 1988 and 2005.
In recent elections, Schweikert narrowly defeated Jevin Hodge in 2022 (50.4% to 49.6%) and Amish Shah in 2024 (51.9% to 48.1%).
