Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, addressed a range of issues in recent posts on his official social media account, including health care reform, concerns about foreign influence in American agriculture, and support for local athletes.
On February 3, 2026, Schweikert posted about the need for transparency and technological innovation in addressing health care costs. He wrote: “Fix it with honesty about the math. Use technology to drive down health care costs, rip the games out of Medicare Advantage, grow the economy, and wall off earned benefits from D.C. theatrics so seniors keep what they were promised without crushing working Americans.”
The following day, Schweikert raised questions regarding the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and its association with entities linked to China’s Communist Party (CCP). On February 4, 2026 he posted: “In what world is FFA’s mission handing a CCP-controlled conglomerate and its DEI agenda direct access to the next generation of American farmers and our food security?”
Later that same day, Schweikert expressed support for Scottsdale native Austin Matthews as he competed for Team USA at the Winter Olympics. He stated: “Cheering on Scottsdale native @AM34 as he suits up for @TeamUSA at the Winter Olympics. He learned to skate in a strip-mall rink wedged between a sports grill and a gym and still became one of the best hockey players on the planet. Not bad for a kid from the desert.”
Schweikert has served in Congress since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011 after previously serving in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills. In recent elections, Schweikert won re-election against Amish Shah in 2024 by securing 51.9% of votes and against Jevin Hodge in 2022 with a narrow margin of 50.4%. He holds degrees from Arizona State University.
