Rep. David Schweikert, U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, addressed federal spending priorities and a recent violent incident in West Bloomfield in a series of posts on March 12, 2026.

In his first post at 15:02 UTC, Schweikert highlighted the imbalance in federal spending between seniors and children, stating, “We spend $6 on seniors for every $1 on kids, and in 33 months more than half of all federal spending goes to those 65 and up. America has about the same number of 18-year-olds as 20 years ago and nearly twice as many people 65 and older. That is the math underneath the debt.”

Later that day at 17:15 UTC, he continued this theme by posting, “Kids get about 7% of federal spending today and by 2036 that falls to 6%. We owe the promises already made to seniors. But by 2036, 52% of federal spending goes to pensions and health care while defense falls to 12%. I’m looking at a country where the worker base barely moved”.

At 19:22 UTC, Schweikert commented on an attack in West Bloomfield with the message, “What happened in West Bloomfield is sickening. My prayers are with the Jewish community and with the law enforcement officers and security team who stood between a violent attacker and innocent families. Antisemitism has no place in America.”

Schweikert has served in Congress since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011 after previously serving in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills. In recent elections, he won against Amish Shah in the general election held in November 2024 with approximately 51.9% of the vote, following a narrow victory over Jevin Hodge (50.4%) two years earlier. Schweikert graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe with degrees earned in both 1988 and again in 2005.
