Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, addressed concerns about Medicare Advantage and energy production in California through a series of posts on March 23, 2026.
In his first post at 15:10 UTC, Schweikert wrote, “Between aggressive upcoding, questionable quality bonuses, and structural overpayments in Medicare Advantage, seniors who stay in traditional Medicare are effectively subsidizing the system. That’s not sustainable, it’s not fair, and it can be reformed.”
Later that day at 18:32 UTC, he commented on California’s energy sector: “California has collapsed their own crude oil production 75% since 1980. Their regulations have made refining so expensive that in the last 3 years alone two major refineries have shut down or converted. Arizona has no oil reserves and no crude oil refineries. We depend on”
At 19:54 UTC the same day, Schweikert reiterated his position by stating, “California has spent decades regulating their own energy production into the ground.”
Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st District since replacing Harry Mitchell in Congress in 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and resides in Fountain Hills. In recent elections, he won against Amish Shah in the 2024 general election with a narrow margin of 51.9% to Shah’s 48.1%, following another close victory over Jevin Hodge in the 2022 general election.
Schweikert holds degrees from Arizona State University and has focused part of his congressional work on healthcare reform and energy policy.
