Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman, has used his social media platform to voice concerns about federal health care spending and policy, highlighting what he sees as inefficiencies and the need for reform.
On January 8, 2026, Schweikert posted: “$195 billion spent. 7% covered. $27 billion wasted. Prices still rising. That’s not health care. That’s Washington lighting your money on fire.”
The following day, on January 9, 2026, he elaborated on his stance with a list of recommended actions: “Every year we delay real reform, we lock in higher prices forever. Clean up improper enrollment. Kill fraud. Stop subsidizing insurers instead of patients. Break the business models blocking competition. Use technology to crush chronic disease costs. Do this and prices fall.”
Later that same day, Schweikert posted another message critiquing policy approaches: “Policy built on vibes collapses the moment it meets facts.”
Schweikert’s remarks come after several close election victories in Arizona’s congressional races. In 2024, he defeated Amish Shah in the general election with 51.9% of the vote to Shah’s 48.1%. Two years earlier, in 2022, Schweikert narrowly won against Jevin Hodge by a margin of less than one percent.
These statements reflect ongoing debates in Congress over health care spending and policy reforms as lawmakers continue to grapple with rising costs and questions about efficiency.
