Rep. David Schweikert, U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district, posted a series of tweets between May 5 and May 6, 2026, addressing issues related to Medicaid home care programs, small businesses in his district, and government spending.
On May 5, Schweikert raised concerns about qualifications and compensation in Medicaid home care programs, stating: “People with little or no health care experience can give shots through this Medicaid home care program and make over $50,000 a year.”
The following day, during National Small Business Week, Schweikert highlighted the importance of local enterprises in his district: “During National Small Business Week, we celebrate the many small businesses throughout #AZ01 that make up the backbone of our economy. This week, join me in thanking and recognizing all that our local small businesses do to benefit our communities.” This message was posted on May 6.
Later on May 6, Schweikert commented on government waste and fiscal policy: “DOGE found real waste. Congress barely cut any of it. We will borrow more today than every dime DOGE saved that was put into law.”
Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st congressional district since 2011 after replacing Harry Mitchell. He previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. Born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently residing in Fountain Hills at age 61, Schweikert is an alumnus of Arizona State University (1988 and again in 2005). In recent elections, he defeated Amish Shah in the 2024 general election with just under 52% of the vote and Jevin Hodge in the closely contested 2022 race.
