Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, posted a series of tweets on May 4, 2026, raising concerns about the number of home health aides in New York and alleging widespread Medicaid fraud.

In his first tweet at 17:41 UTC, Schweikert stated: “New York has 171 home health aides per 1,000 seniors. The U.S. average is 68. That is not normal. That is Medicaid fraud on a massive scale, and taxpayers are being forced to fund it. My bill would fix that.”

A follow-up tweet posted seconds later contained only a link: “https://t.co/tMgeYG0OgV”.

Later that day at 20:38 UTC, Schweikert continued his criticism of New York’s home care system with another post: “Something is wrong when the biggest job in New York is home care: 650,000 people. Family members are getting paid for checkbooks, groceries, and rides to the doctor. CMS has no way to know if it happened. Medicaid is paying for fraud as much as medicine.”

Schweikert’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over Medicaid spending and oversight at both state and federal levels.

Schweikert has served in Congress since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and resides in Fountain Hills, Arizona. He holds degrees from Arizona State University (source). In recent elections, he won re-election against Amish Shah in 2024 by a margin of approximately three percentage points and narrowly defeated Jevin Hodge in the 2022 general election.
