Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, has recently addressed several national issues through his social media posts.
On February 23, 2026, Schweikert alerted American citizens about security concerns in Mexico, stating: “Travel update: U.S. citizens in several parts of Mexico – including Jalisco (Guadalajara/Puerto Vallarta), Quintana Roo (Cancún/Playa/Cozumel), and Baja California (Tijuana) – are being urged to shelter in place amid security operations and roadblocks. Check State Dept alerts”.
The following day, on February 24, he commented on tax policy debates in the United States: “Good to see a real debate about how we tax trade. A destination-based cash-flow tax is simple in practice. It taxes what we buy here at home and stops taxing what we sell abroad. It rewards building in America instead of offshoring and gives us steadier receipts over time.”
Later that same day, Schweikert discussed demographic trends and their fiscal implications: “Over the next decade we’re on track to have 5.3 million fewer people in the country. That is roughly $500 billion that never shows up to help pay the bills and fewer workers left to carry the weight of an aging country on their backs.”
Schweikert has held his seat since defeating Harry Mitchell in 2011 and has consistently won re-election, including victories over Jevin Hodge in 2022 and Amish Shah in 2024 ([source](https://ballotpedia.org/David_Schweikert)). Born in Los Angeles in 1962, Schweikert resides in Fountain Hills and holds degrees from Arizona State University.
