Rep. David Schweikert, U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, posted a series of statements on social media between May 29 and June 1, 2026, addressing local student achievements and state welfare program accountability.

On May 29, Schweikert recognized Arizona students who received appointments to U.S. Service Academies, stating: “Today we honored our local students who received appointments to U.S. Service Academies. This year, our office set a new record with 21 students representing Arizona as they prepare to serve our country. It was truly a pleasure to meet you all. We are so proud! https://t.co/H2fqCQqfOk”.

Later that day, he commented on the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), writing, “Arizona has fewer SNAP recipients because the state-run program is finally being held accountable for an unacceptable 8% improper payment rate. Benefits should go to people who actually qualify, and taxpayers deserve basic competence. https://t.co/EZWP2oDSzH”.

On June 1, Schweikert addressed fiscal policy in government reconciliation processes: “Why squander reconciliation? Use it to cut waste and fraud without taking away people’s services. That is the moral thing to do. https://t.co/Lcen3YCenn”.

Schweikert has served in Congress since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills at age 61. A graduate of Arizona State University, Tempe, Schweikert earned his degrees in both 1988 and 2005.

In recent election cycles, Schweikert secured his seat by defeating Jevin Hodge in the 2022 general election with a narrow margin—182 votes (50.4%) to Hodge’s 179 (49.6%)—and again winning against Amish Shah in the 2024 general election with a vote count of 225 (51.9%) to Shah’s 208 (48.1%).
