A new book aims to guide current and former executives seeking to serve on corporate boards. “Wanted → A Board Career: The Definitive Playbook for Landing a Board Seat” is authored by Naomi Kent, a strategic advisor, and Marlo Lyons, an executive coach and Scottsdale resident who is also a member of the Scottsdale Chamber.

The book provides advice for C-suite leaders, senior executives, business owners, and professionals on how to transition their experience into board-ready skills. It covers topics such as identifying suitable boards, building a strong narrative for nominating committees, and navigating networking with board search consultants.

Frank Jaehnert, public company board member and former CEO of Brady Corp., described the book as “essential reading for professionals ready to step into board service.”

The publication features endorsements from experienced board members. Dennis Cagan said, “This is by far the most comprehensive guide to pursuing a board seat that I have seen my 57 years of sitting on boards.” Stephanie Streeter commented, “An easy-to-read ‘how-to’ without ever being pedantic—well written, well organized, and truly comprehensive. I’ve never read a book that starts with ‘why a board’ and ends with ‘onboarding and the work really begins.’ It’s a great playbook, and like all great playbooks, it leaves room for readers to apply their own talent and creativity.” Dennis Chookaszian added that reading this book earlier in his career would have helped him avoid pitfalls.

Marlo Lyons partners with senior executives on leadership development and career advancement strategies. Naomi Kent works globally advising C-suite leaders through The Boardroom Co., helping them move into meaningful board roles.

The release date for the book is February 10, 2026. An ebook version will be available at $0.99 during presale until launch before moving to $9.99; an audiobook will also be released alongside the paperback edition.

Lyons is part of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce community—a local organization that supports business growth through advocacy initiatives aimed at fostering economic prosperity in Scottsdale. The chamber offers its members resources such as networking events and professional development opportunities across sectors including education, healthcare, finance, and hospitality according to its official website.
